Stellate Ganglion Block
What is stellate ganglion?
These are the aggregation of nerves present in front of the neck on the lighter side which is sympathetic in nature
What is all pain relieved by this block?
CRPS, Herpes zoster affecting the face and neck, Refractory chest pain or Angina, Phantom limb pain, few cancer pain, Bell’s palsy and a variety of orofacial pain syndromes, hyperhidrosis, frostbite
Who all can be benefitted?
Patients suffering from pain in upper limb and face which is associated with temperature changes, skin changes, color changes.
Is it a daycare procedure?
Yes it is a day care procedure and a patient is discharged the same day
How is it done?
It is done inside operation theatre under local anesthesia. The site where stellate ganglion is present is identified using ultrasonography of fluoroscopy or ct scan. After the site is identified, it is blocked using medicines.
What are the post-procedure recommendations?
Patient is informed about the complications. if any complications seen patient has to come back to doctor and report. There is no restriction of any activity after the procedure. Sometimes some soreness in the neck will be present which will decrease eventually.
How long will the pain be relived?
Pain will be relived for a prolonged duration, however, subsequent injections may be required.
